San Diego nears dryness record

Unless it receives 0.13'' soon, San Diego will notch the driest December-February period on record. And there's a good chance that will happen.

The National Weather Service says there's little chance that significant rain will fall through Feb. 25th, and the month ends on Feb. 28th.

The weather also will be mostly warmer than normal. The daytime high temperature might be a shade below normal (65 degrees) early this week. But the high will be back in the upper 60s by Thursday and is likely to hit 70 by the weekend.

As has been the case for most of the winter, a high pressure system steering cold, wet weather away from Southern California. At times, the jet stream has veered into the Midwest and Northeast, contributing the heavy snow both regions have received this winter.

A WARM WINTER AT LINDBERGH FIELD

• The daytime high was below average on only 10 days between December 1 and February 16 -- a 78 day period.
• During the same period, the daytime high hit 70 or above on 36 days.
