Congratulations to Thespian Troupe 7282 for their successful participation in the New Mexico Thespian Festival this past weekend. The following students qualified for Nationals: Elizabeth Raykovics, costume design; Matthew Smith and Caroline Korte, duo musical scene; Madeline Roe, Emily Grant and Carlie Capener, group musical theatre; Morgan South and Brooke Wilson, duo musical scene; Alyssa Porras, solo musical theatre; Caroline Korte, solo musical theatre; Lisa Justice, contrasting monologues.

 

Good morning GSA members. We have our group picture today during lunch.  Meet at Ms. P's room, A120, by 11:20 and we will walk up to the north side of the upper gym together.

 

Yearbook pictures will be taken for Spanish Club, GSA and Math NHS today at lunch in the north mezzanine of the gym.

 

If you like designing and technology, please consider the computer graphics club. We're a community of people who have a passion for design, regardless of skill level or knowledge of art. The most important thing to us is to have fun and love what you are doing. Bring yourself and your ideas today at lunch in room E115. 

 

Best Buddies will have their Club Photo taken at 11:10 on Friday. Please be sure to make it! Best Buddies will have an officer meeting on Thursday during lunch

 

COUNSELING:

  • Attention eCADEMY students – One orientation session will be held here at Volcano Vista on Wednesday January 21st starting at 2:40 pm in the computer lab located in F216.

  • Parents of Seniors at Volcano Vista High School, the FAFSA Kickoff event is Scheduled for Wednesday February 4th, 2015 at 6:30 pm in the VVHS Performing Arts Center.  Please plan on coming by to get valuable information on completing the FAFSA as part of your students financial aid and College search process.  Attending this event puts your students name in a drawing for a $500 Scholarship.

  • The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career. The test will be given in the Volcano Vista High School lecture hall on Monday, February 2nd from 7:30 am to approximately 12pm. To schedule yourself for the test, please sign up in the JROTC classroom.  If you have any questions please contact Major Campbell.

  • The Navy, Army, Marines and National Guard will have a representatives available during lunch on Wednesday January 28th for anyone interested.  The reps will be in the lower E-F Concourse area during lunch.

  • The Tony & Guy Hairdressing Academy will have a representative available during lunch on Thursday January 29th for anyone interested.  The rep will be in the lower E-F Concourse area during lunch.

 

ATHLETICS 

  • WRESTLING: Congrats to the dirty bird wrestling team for their huge tournament win this weekend. The wrestling team won the prestigious Joe Vivian Classic for the first team in school history. The Hawks scored over 200 points beating Rio Grande and Belen by more ten 30 points.  The Hawks had 8 placers. Starting with Senior Damian "the bracket buster" Maestas who knocked off the three of the top 4 guys in his bracket to take third place. Sophomore Angelo Calderon took fourth place, junior David Lopez took 5th place, and Josiah Morgan 4th place. The team had 4 finalists, two runner ups in Willie Chavez and Richard Govea. Our first champion was Sophomore Marcus Santillanes he started off the night with a 7-3 decision in the championship. He was followed by senior Joshua Griego who continued his perfect season 22-0 with a pin in the finals match. Please come support us all as we wrestle at Cleveland tomorrow night. With a win tomorrow we will be district champs. Thank you for all the continued support.

  • Attention all girl's tennis players. Today is going to be a nice day to get out there and hit. Get your racquet and head over to Sierra Vista after school. We have court time from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

  • Boys Basketball will play at Cibola tonight at 7.

  • Girls Basketball will play Cibola in the Ring of Fire Wednesday at 7.

 

Volcano Vista is one of the biggest and best-looking campuses in the city, and we want to keep it that way.  Please do not keep food or drinks in your lockers, as it becomes a safety and health concern.  Also, we would like to thank the students who have picked up after themselves during lunch.
