[californiadisasters] Get Ready to #ShakeOut on Thursday!

Get Ready to #ShakeOut on Thursday!
#ShakeOut
Dear Catlan,
The 2016 International ShakeOut Day is this week! On Thursday at 10:20 a.m., millions of people around the world will Drop, Cover, and Hold On and practice other aspects of their emergency plans in the Great California US ShakeOut! What all will you do? What will your friends and family do? Your neighbors and co-workers? We're all in this together!

Please take a moment to confirm your registration is renewed for 2016 by logging into your account and updating any necessary drill plans or contact information.
More than 10.2 million people have already
registered in the 2016 Great California ShakeOut!
Before ShakeOut, make sure to:

- Submit your event to the ShakeOut Calendar, if open to the public or media

- Learn about all the ways you can participate in ShakeOut

- Visit your region's Resources page for guides, manuals, and more

- Use this calendar invite to remind you to practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On at 10:20 a.m. this Thursday
- View and share ShakeOut multimedia such as drill broadcastssafety videos, and PSAs

- Find ShakeOut messaging materials like animated GIFs, media release templates, social media content, and much more at ShakeOut.org/messaging
Join the #ShakeOut Thunderclap

An easy way to help promote #ShakeOut to others. Sign up and commit to sending a one-time message, at the same time of many others. You can choose Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr, inspiring your friends, family, and co-workers who follow you to participate in ShakeOut!

And, of-course be sure to use social media, graphics, and media relations materials at ShakeOut.org/messaging to help you promote ShakeOut too.
Drill Broadcasts and Safety Video Series
One minute recordings are available in English and Spanish you to play on any device that can support YouTube videos. These provide step-by-step instructions and explain for why each action is important.

And, to make sure that your participants practice the correct safety procedures, have them view the Earthquake Safety Video Series. This also helps make sure the photos your share via social media with #ShakeOut are great examples from which others can learn!
Apps for Improving Resilience

Download the FEMA App, available for Apple, Android, and Blackberry mobile devices. Upload and share photos of damage and recovery efforts. Safety tips: Receive safety and preparedness reminders and learn how to stay safe before, during, and after over 20 types of hazards, including floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes.

Get the American Red Cross earthquake app! Receive notification when an earthquake occurs, find help and let others know you're safe even if the power is out. You can even use built-in functions to turn your camera into a flashlight or send a safety message to your designated network. Download for Apple or Android.
Do you know how much damage earthquakes can cause to your home? Temblor, a free mobile (iOS and Android) and web app, estimates the cost of damage to your property based on the latest USGS seismic hazard model. It maps recent earthquakes, faults, as well as liquefaction, landslide, flood, and tsunami zones. Go to http://temblor.net for our 'earthquake insights' blog and our global earthquake forecast.
For Northern Californians: the Road to Ready game is a great way to test how prepared you are, provided by AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah. Test your knowledge about how to prepare for an earthquake at home, work, or in your car. Be sure to share it with your friends, family, and co-workers!
We're All in This Together
Be sure to encourage discussion among your participants about what they learned, what worked well, and what additional safety actions are needed.  The Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety is a great conversation starter for how to be prepared for what to do after shaking stops!

And remember, your registrations for ShakeOut and TsunamiZone automatically count in America's PrepareAthon! You can register any other preparedness activities you do for other hazards at ready.gov/prepare and contribute to America's grassroots effort to become better prepared.
Thank you for your continued commitment to disaster preparedness!
