Hi Group,
I haven't posted in years, but couldn't resist this time since I was on a type 1 strike team from the bay area sent to this fire. The team consisted of engines from Crockett, El Cerrito, Richmond and San Ramon. As engineer, it was a long day getting there and driving back. The thing I remember the most is the generosity of the people we were serving. Our engine didn't have an air conditioner so we spent our standby time in the shade under freeway overpasses. We were often approached by citizens bringing us cold drinks and food. A church in Rainbow set up a food kitchen that fed firefighters and many displaced people in the area. They had a massage therapist that gave us back massages and gave out small containers of eye wash and other goodies. A high school gym was opened up and one man gathered hundreds of towels for the firefighters to use. That has to go down as the best strike team I've ever been on with some of the most appreciative people I've ever met.

2007 Rice Canyon Fire reminder

(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time - Dublin / Edinburgh / Lisbon / London

Where: Fallbrook/San Diego Co.

Notes: In the early morning hours of this day in 2007 powerful Santa Ana Winds drove this fire across Interstate 15 (forcing its closure) and into the Fallbrook area where it consumed 9,000 acres and 206 homes along with 2 businesses and 40 outbuildings and injured 5 firefighters.
