LAKE ISABELLA & JAWBONE CANYON, CA -On Friday August 10, 2012 at approximately 1:25 P.M., the Kern County Fire Department received reports of numerous fires that were started due to lightning strikes in the areas of Lake Isabella and Jawbone Canyon.
Jawbone Inc. is located 8 miles from Hwy. 14 on Jawbone Canyon Rd. in BLM land. A first alarm wild-land response was started to the incident including three engines, two patrols, one hand-crew, one dozer, and one helicopter from the Kern County Fire Department. There are currently 5 separate fires in the area. Four of these fires are 3 acres or less in size. The largest of the 5 fires is currently 40 acres in size.
Squirrel Inc. is located in Squirrel Valley near the intersection of Big Springs Rd. and Dove Ct. in the US Forest Service land. Resources responding from the Kern County Fire Department include two engines, two patrols, a dozer, and one Battalion Chief. There is a Type 3 strike team of engines and a Type 1 hand crew responding from the Piute Complex to assist in the firefighting efforts. The Dove Incident is currently under a Unified Command with the US Forest Service. Precipitation in the area is assisting fire fighters with suppression efforts. The size is currently 30-50 acres and crews will remain on scene overnight doing mop-up.
There are currently no structures threatened and no road closures. There are no reported injuries.
