Dear VVHS Parents and Teachers:
Will you Become a Host Family or Host Parent?
A charming 16 year old girl from Shanghai,China wants to find a host family or parents in the United States! She loves to sing, plays a Chinese string instrument and piano. She enjoys swimming and running, gets straight A's, is outgoing, and loves animals. Her dad is a judge and her mom, a lawyer. She will be coming to the United States to spend one year in an American high school while living with American parents and/or family. During 2012, her own family played host to an American student. Now it's her turn.
We at ICES invite you to open your heart and your door to this young lady who will share with you her cultural perspectives, her language, customs, music, sports, and her love.
The Hosting Experience
ICES students have their own spending money, cover their own personal expenses, and have full health insurance. Volunteer host families are asked to provide the student with meals and room and board during his or her stay in America. Although not a large sum of money, the Department of State does appreciate your dedication to international exchange. Host families can claim $50 per month tax deduction for each month they host in the following tax year.
ICES Host Families help establish far-reaching positive experiences for our foreign students. Through the wonderful intercultural relationships formed, you will help to build peaceful relationships between countries, one person at a time.
What do you need to do? The first step to finding out more about becoming an ICES Host Family is to contact your Area Representative. If you decide to move forward, you will complete the ICES Host Family application process. Then your ICES Area Representative will thoughtfully help you choose a prospective new son or daughter, using his or her knowledge of other cultures, student profiles, your preferences, general family information along with the criteria of your local school. We will recommend a select choice of students for you to consider hosting. Some of the countries represented by our students are: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, China,Brazil,Switzerland, Holland,Spain,Ukraine,France, and Slovakia. New students join our list every single day.
