[californiadisasters] Cal Fire Saw Harsh Winter Wildfires Because of Drought

Cal Fire Saw Harsh Winter Wildfires Because of Drought

(KGO) - Cal Fire is dealing with a substantially harsh and long wildfire season because of the drought.

Ken Pimlott, Cal Fire fire chief, says that the winter wildfires have burned 3,200 acres so far this year in Cal Fire's jurisdiction. At this time last year, Cal Fire saw 800 burned acres.

The forestry department says it has had to hire more seasonal firefighters this winter than ever before. Pimlott says that Cal Fire will staff its full number of firefighters four to six weeks earlier than usual this year.
