This is near one of my old stations and in the response zone. I spent 18 years there, 6 as Captain and it was 'home' to me.
That dune grass can burn UNDER the sand and is a PITA. Water soaks through without delay and doesn't always put the fire out. Plus it can't be driven on, it's loose sand not suitable for 4WD (but a dozer, maybe, in some spots)... nothing but hand work.
And as a side, it's the ONLY private ocean beach in the state (because it's technically the mouth of Tomales Bay, but the ocean is right there). It's also one of the best clamming sites in the state (geoduck and horseneck). The town of Dillon Beach (pop ~300) grows to MANY thousands on hot summer holiday weekends.

Sheriff's officials say emergency crews responded Friday night to a wildfire.
Marin County firefighters and sheriff's deputies responded to a wildfire in the unincorporated Dillon Beach area Friday night, but were able to quickly contain the blaze.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office announced via Twitter at 8:53 p.m. that campers were being evacuated to the beach due to a wildland fire near Dillon Beach Resort. Shortly thereafter, they said deputies were blocking roads into the Dillion's Beach area to allow fire crews safe access.
As of 10 p.m., the sheriff's office reported that the fire had been contained. It was estimated to be about 5 acres in size.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
