2008: A severe thunderstorm produced dime to nickel sized hail in La Quinta, as well as a 63 mph wind gust.
1997: A major heat wave started on 8.2 and ended on 8.7.
Temperatures hit 121° in Thermal, 118° in Borrego Springs, 113° in Brea, 110° in Riverside and Ontario, and 101° in Julian.
The low temperature was 93° in Palm Springs on 8.5.
Five deaths were attributed to this heat wave.
1978: The high temperature at Lovelock, NV, was 105, while Reno, NV, reported a high of 102.
1973: Woodfords recorded 1.20 inches of precipitation1961: A trace of rain fell at Bakersfield on this date, setting a record.
The year 1961 holds the distinction of having the most daily precipitation records in the month of August in Bakersfield with 4 such records still in the books.
1961: A heavy thunderstorm hit near El Capitan Reservoir producing 1.75 inches of rain in 90 minutes.
Los Coches and Quail Creeks flooded Lakeside.
Another heavy thunderstorm hit south of Yucca Valley.
Flash floods hit the area south of Yucca Valley and also blocked Highway 62 with mud and debris up to two feet deep.
1955: Thunderstorms strike Barton Flats and Needles.
Flash floods washed out a road and caused minor slides around Barton Flats.
In Needles, flash floods washed out Highway 66 and damaged railroads.
100 people were made homeless as many washes turned into raging torrents.
