The Volcano Vista Vanguard represented VVHS in the Tournament of Bands in Las Cruces this weekend and performed an outstanding show. The band consists of woodwinds, brass, percussion, and colorguard. Great job Volcano Vista Vanguard Band!
The first bowling tournament of the year took place on Saturday at Lucky 66 bowl. Volcano Vista was represented by 4 teams, 3 in the novice division and 1 in the advance division. Coach Hampel was pleased with the effort made by all the bowlers and even more pleased to announce that the novice team consisting of Justin Baca, Trevor Anderson, Phillip Sherman, Chris Arana, and Dontar Ruiz placed second out of 19 entries. Individually Justin Baca lead the division for individual scores and Trevor Anderson was among the top 10. Bryan Nogan also finished in the top ten individual scoring in the advance division. Next tournament is this Saturday at Silva's Bowling.
Congratulations to this week's students that were recognized for demonstrating the core values of our school Safety, Organization, Achievement and Respect. Way to SOAR! Also, remember you can turn in SOAR cards for merchandiseevery Friday at the SOAR store in H Hall near DECA Store. This week's winners receive Hawk Spirit Wear. National Honor Society Members: Thanks for your work in the Snack Bar last week. Many of you have still not dropped off your cans of food for our food drive. This food drive is our REQUIRED COMMUNITY SERVICE project for this semester. You MUST participate to letter or earn acord this year. Bring your donations to Mrs. Jones in Room E203 and have her sign your purple sheet for community service. TODAY at lunch is the deadline. NHS Officers should report to Room E203 at lunch to begin counting food items and moving them downstairs to the Activities Office.
A representative from Eastern New Mexico University will be available between the E and F hall eatery during lunchtime today. Stop by to get information about ENMU!

Do you enjoy poetry and local music? Are you ever inspired to share some of your voice with others? Well, guess what? OPEN MIKE NIGHT IS BACK! Open Mike Night will be Thursday evening, November 10th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This event is sponsored by Creative Writing Club and Show Choir and will be held in the Black Box Theater in J Hall. Sign-up sheets for those wishing to perform (some original poetry, original song, or spoken word) are located in Ms. Valdez's Room A203, Ms. Montoya's Room H219, and Ms. Clark's Room G173. Everyone is welcome to attend this "coffee-house" styled event! Come in, buy a cup of coffee and some pastries (just like Star-Hawks Coffee shop) and enjoy the show! See you all Thursday Night!
