[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Weather History (May 1)

1995: Severe thunderstorms moved through Madera, Fresno and Tulare counties, spawning an F0 tornado near the Fresno Fairgrounds causing minor damaging some roofs and damaging a car.
Hail at least ¾ of an inch in diameter also caused locally heavy losses to fruit crops in eastern Fresno County.

1990: It was 34° in San Luis Obispo, the lowest temperature on record for May.

1981: It was 100° in Victorville, the earliest 100 degree reading of the season on record.

1967: Latest freeze ever at Edwards AFB, low dipped to 32 degrees.

1967: It was 18° in Big Bear Lake, the lowest temperature on record for May. This also occurred on 5.8.1964.

1955: Dense fog observed at Bakersfield, the latest such occurrence in the season on record.

1955: It snowed six inches in Idyllwild and in Palomar Mountain, each the greatest daily snowfall on record for May.
In Idyllwild this also occurred on 5.6.1995.

1930: In Riverside 1.30 inches of rain fell and in Escondido 2.17 inches of rain fell, each the greatest daily amount on record for May.

1915: Bakersfield only reached 55 degrees for a high, the lowest on record here for May (also tied on May 6, 1921).
