[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Weather History (May 5)



2005: Heavy rainfall in the afternoon from thunderstorms triggered flooding in the Madera area.
A roof collapsed on a building in downtown Madera and several roads were flooded with water.
In the southern San Joaquin Valley, parts of Highway 99 and Interstate 5 experienced flooding in Kern County.
In Coalinga, all roads were flooded with some described as "impassible" in some instances.

1998: An "apparent" tornado hit San Bernardino and Rialto and shredded metal siding in Rialto.

1998: Thunderstorms dropped pea size hail that accumulated up to 3" deep in parts of southwest Bakersfield.

1992:  Moisture laden air was drawn into Arizona as a low pressure system stalled over Baja California.
Outflow winds from thunderstorms reached as high as 64 mph at Deer Valley Airport.
Trees were toppled onto power lines, leaving 27000 customers without electricity.
Near Yuma, 2 mobile homes were blown off their foundations.
Tree limbs were broken, awnings were destroyed, and power lines were downed by winds.
In southeast California, a small F0 tornado caused damage to warehouses on highway 86 between Larsen and Ralph roads north of Imperial.

1990: The high of 101° in downtown LA on this day shattered the previous record of 93°.

1983: Fresno received 0.01" of rain.
This was the last measurable precipitation received for the water season, pushing the total to 23.57", the wettest water season on record.

1975: Latest single digit reading on record so late in the season at Lodgepole (Sequoia-Kings Cyn. N.P.), 9°.

1965: It was 33° overnight at Pismo Beach establishing a new record low for the month.

1950: The temperature of 35° in Riverside was the lowest temperature on record for May.
