It depends upon which part of the state to which you refer. NorCal is much more like Oregon whereas as SoCal is much more like Baja California.

The Northern California fire season starts a bit later and a bit more mellow than that in Southern California which traditionally starts earlier in the springtime.

The biggest difference between the two ends of the state is when the fire season ends. In NorCal rains and snow will flip off the switch as early as October but perhaps more often in November whereas those months are the height of the Santa Ana Wind season in SoCal which can even cause fire problems in December and January especially further south.

Add to these trends the additional trend of climate change and the fire season is starting sooner and more aggressively and ending later or in some cases not at all but merely moderating a bit before starting up again full-tilt in the spring.
