[californiadisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (August 24)



2012: Today ended 19 consecutive days of 100° F or greater maximum temperatures for
Fresno (since Aug 6th).
Strong high pressure was in control during this period.

2010:
Downtown San Francisco had a high of 98
° F which tied its monthly record.

2003:
Thunderstorms hit the Cuyamaca Mountains (San Diego Co.).
2" of rain fell in Pine Valley in 35 minutes.
Flash flooding occurred in Pine Valley and east of Alpine.
Nickel size hail fell in Pine Valley.
Strong winds at Lake
Henshaw caused major tree damage.

2000:
A thunderstorm dropped 0.76" on Palomar Mountain, producing a mud slide which closed Highway 76.

1977: Half Moon Bay received 0.19" of rain.

1962: Reno, NV's temperature dips to a low of 33° F.

1961: Flooding resulting from a thunderstorm covered roads with water and mud, trapping passengers in at least
20 cars in the Mojave area. Railroad tracks were blocked with debris for up to 18 hours.

1942: It reached 117° F in Las Vegas, NV, establishing an all-time high for the city.
This was equaled on 7/19/2005.

1913: Second of three consecutive nights where Fresno recorded a record high minimum temperature.
The low temperature dropped to only 80° F.
