We drove back from the Redwoods today.
The skies were mostly clear, some smokes still in the forest, hint of smell snuck into the truck (overtime!), no obvious signs of trees torching out, mostly undergrowth (the parts visible from 101), the helibase is shut down, there are crews dragging the miles of hose out (seen and heard on scanner), more returning overhead, a LOT of support vehicles running about, the incident base is still largish but not a flurry of activity.
There was a collection of canvas tents, yurts, RVs and other housing at base; cooking tents and other temporary structures still in use. Prolly 50ish acres of 'stuff' there. Many crew buses still on site.
But to prove "it's over", the tee shirt vendors have moved on. ;-) it'll only be really over after some rain.
Home, tired, traffic sucked (Willits, really? Bumper to bumper and mini cars trying to climb under my 20K pound rig?) with a fatal wreck stopping I5 both directions in Woodland (but I had a full belly and my Sonic slushy!).
Also heard (new scanner, new feature self reprograms according to the user current GPS location, I'm still not dialed in on using it fully yet); a lot of air attack chatter (strong signals, likely north of Sac) and a Sonoma Type III strike team dispatched to Mariposa.
Too pooped to research tonight, a six hour drive, took eight, loads of stoopids behind the wheels today. Long day for towing and I have to clean it again too.
...to sleep, perchance to dream...

PS For those that don't get my running joke, I was once a firefighter, but now I feel MUCH better. ;-) after 34 years, I retired.
"I love the smell of wild land smoke in the morning... It smells like... OVERTIME !!!"
Apologies to Robert Duvall; and the writers of Apocalypse Now et al.
