2014: Heavy thunderstorms hit the Inland Empire, the mountains and the lower desert.
Mt. Baldy Village got 4.4", with 4" falling in 60 minutes.
Flash flooding and debris flows were common, causing road closures and damage.

1997: A major heat wave started on 8.2 and ended on 8.7.
Temperatures hit 121° F in Thermal, 118° F in Borrego Springs, 113° F in Brea, 110° F in Riverside and Ontario, and 101° F in Julian.
The low temperature was 93° F in Palm Springs on 8.5.
Five deaths were attributed to this heat wave.
Dime size hail was reported at Campo on this day.

1969: Saint Helena had a high temperature of 108° F.

1961: The high temperature at Hawthorne, NV, was 105° F.

1929: A severe thunderstorm in Yuma, AZ, un-roofs more than 10 buildings and completely destroys 2 others.

1928: Since records for Bakersfield have been kept at Meadows Field, only three days in the month of August have never received any precipitation – August 3rd, August 20th and August 25th.
