2007: A snow storm on this day and on 12.9 was nothing unusual except in the San Jacinto Mountains where 17" fell in Pine Cove.

2006: All-time record high for the month of December reached at Fresno, 77° F.

2001: Santa Ana winds blew on 12.7 and on this day.
Gusts reached 87 mph at Fremont Canyon.
Winds contributed to the Potrero Fire.

1997: A weak tornado damaged some trailers in a San Jose trailer park

1997: The heaviest rains in 70 years struck Orange County with four to eight inches of rainfall starting on 12.6 and ending on this day.
Ten inches was recorded at Mission Viejo and over four inches at Corona.
Heavy downpours also hit the Victor Valley.
Widespread flooding resulted in Orange County, along with mud slides and coastal erosion at Laguna Beach.
Flooding also occurred in Corona and several communities of Victor Valley.
Mud flowed through Adelanto.
On this day a funnel cloud was observed in Del Mar.

1989: It was 87° F in Borrego Springs, the highest temperature on record for December.
This also occurred the previous two days on 12.6 and 12.7, and on 12.28.1980.

1988: Strong Santa Ana winds blew across Southern California.
A gust of 92 mph was measured at Laguna Peak (Ventura Co.).
Winds fanned several major fires.
Roofs were taken off of buildings and trees and power lines were brought down.
Estimated damage was $20 million.

1982: Heavy rain in eastern San Diego County started on this day and ended on 12.9.
Flooding resulted, and it was disastrous in Ocotillo.

1979: It was 69° F in Big Bear Lake, the highest temperature on record for December.
This also occurred four days earlier on 12.4.1979.

1972: The morning low at Reno, NV, was -12° F.

1972: Santa Cruz only hit 41° F making it the lowest high temperature ever recorded there.

1952: 16" of snow fell at Tahoe City (west shore Lake Tahoe).

1938: It was 100° at La Mesa, the national maximum temperature record for December.

1931: Wettest December day ever in Bakersfield, 1.02" of rain. (Also recorded on December 27, 1936).

1909: 10" of snow fell at Glenbrook, NV (east shore Lake Tahoe).
