[californiadisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (April 16)



2006: 18" of snow fell at Donner Memorial State Park (near Truckee).

1996: An F0 tornado touched down 9 miles west of Fresno.
Small hail also fell in association with this thunderstorm causing $600,000 in crop damage, mainly to grapes.
Heavy rain fell in the city of Fresno, stranding motorists in cars.
One report had as much as 0.73" of rain falling in just 25 minutes!

1976: Strong storm winds reached gale force along the San Diego County coast. 85 mph gusts at Mt. Laguna.
Severe damage occurred at Oceanside Harbor Pier.
Trees were downed and boats were ripped from moorings.

1938: Aurora Borealis observed as far south as Yuma, AZ.

1917: The morning low temperature at Truckee was 2° F.

1896: Reno, NV, reported a morning low of 17° F.

1853: Downtown San Francisco picked up 3.45" of rain.
