Ponderosa Fire grows to 1,000 acres in Butte Co., immediate evacuation orders remain


FORBESTOWN, Calif. - 12:15 a.m. update: 

Butte County CAL FIRE says the Ponderosa Fire as grown to 1,000 acres in 10 hours.


Officials said at least 50 engines and over eight-to-ten aircraft were used to battle the blaze. Crews are working overnight to secure fire lines. However, as of 11:00 p.m. CAL FIRE says the fire continues to grow. 


Immediate evacuation orders remain in place overnight for: Lumpkin Road from Forbestown Road to the community of Feather Falls. 

Evacuation Warning: Lumpkin Rd from The Enterprise Bridge to Lake View Terrace.

Butte County firefighters are fighting a fire in the Robinson Mill area near Ponderosa Way in Forbestown. The fire is called the Ponderosa Fire.

Officials have issued immediate evacuation orders for Lumpkin Road between Forbestown Road and Feather Falls Fire Station 51 and all connecting roads. 

As of 5:25 p.m., CAL FIRE reported that 40 structures were threatened. 

Officials said an evacuation shelter has been opened at the Church of the Nazarene in Oroville for those being evacuated. A second shelter will be opened by 6:45 p.m. at the Ponderosa Community Center at 17103 Ponderosa Way.

A small animal shelter has been opened at the Old County Hospital in Oroville. It is being asked that people check in their animals before 9:00 p.m. Butte County opened a large animal shelter at Camelot Equestrian Park at 1985 Clark Road for residents evacuated from the fire. 

Feather Fall School will be closed on Wednesday because of the fire. 

Officials said the fire has burned 600 acres. The public can get more information about the fire by calling 530-538-7826. Residents who need assistance with animal evacuations should call 530-895-0000.
