2007: The high temperature at Reno, NV, was 102° F.

2006: Lightning ignited two large wildfires between Mt. San Gorgonio and Yucca Valley.
The Sawtooth Fire burned 62,000 acres near Morongo Valley.
The Millard Fire burned 24,000 acres near Banning.
The two fires would eventually merge becoming the Sawtooth-Millard-Heart Complex and consume 85,700 acres.
The Sawtooth Fire caused significant damage in Pioneertown where it killed 1 man, and destroyed or damaged 62 homes and 230 vehicles.

2006: The Canyon Wildfire ignited burning more than 33,000 acres, including portions of eastern Santa Clara County.

2002: It was 101° F in Idyllwild, the highest temperature on record and the earliest date with a 100° F reading of the season (the latest 100° F reading of the season occurred on 7.18.1960, making a window of only ten days).
This all-time high also occurred on 7.17.1960.

1998: Heavy rain producing thunderstorms formed over the southeast side of the Las Vegas Valley during a two hour period.
At the onset of the storms, a lightning strike set fire to a large house which completely destroyed the structure.
Over 1" of rainfall led to flash flooding which forced the closure of several streets in Henderson and East Las Vegas.
One car was stranded and damaged by flood waters early in the afternoon and another car was caught in flood waters in the Las Vegas Wash during the evening, long after the thunderstorms had ended.
Lightning struck a large house in Henderson, NV, and set it on fire.
The house was totally destroyed with damages totaling $1.5 million at the time.

1992: Remnants of Hurricane Darby brought unsettled weather to SoCal for a 3rd day.
Rainfall was light, only around 0.10" at the coast and 0.25" in inland. However, the storm forced a weather delay for the Space Shuttle Columbia which was scheduled to land at Edwards Air Force Base after a 13-day mission.
Darby was part of the record-breaking Eastern Pacific hurricane season of 1992 which included 27 named storms.

1974: Tahoe City recorded 1.63" of precipitation.

1905: Stretch of 5 days in a row of 110° or better at Fresno comes to and end.
Fresno had the following highs during this stretch: 112° F, 111° F, 111° F, 115° F, and 113° F.
The later 3 still stand as record highs for those days.
