Re: [californiadisasters] Fire-Tornado Pictures: Why They Form, How to Fight ...

Much like when a fire really blows up on a Ground Crew and it's crowning and doing all sorts of stuff that is really fun to watch IF you are in the Safety Zone where you can as a several of my Wildland friends say take advantage of the Kodak Moment. If your running for a Safe Zone or looking for a good shelter deployment area it is likely not so much fun! Never been there never done that (save in training) and not looking to do so in my remaining years.

A fire whorl/tornado/devil *IS* a heads up for today's firefighters.  If you're in front of one, you're in the wrong place and should be considering heading into your shelter (more times than not).  It means that the winds are erratic, powerful and you more than likely do NOT have the proper tools (water, hose, aircraft) in position and you're in deep doo doo.

However, I've seen them across the field and they're interesting to watch too.  It all depends on conditions and where you are at the time.
