Clive's story was a single civilization dying in one event spread over multiple locations which is what happened to the Minoans (but not immediately) as their merchant fleet and navy were destroyed all around the Aegean at one time by the towering tsunami. In less than several hours the events were in play that would cause them to be subsumed into the Mycenaean Culture over the next century. Mycenaean Culture in combination with the Minoan contributions like language (Minoan linear B is an early form of Greek) and mythology (when linear B was first successfully deciphered it immediately became clear the Minoans were talking about Gods and myths we associated with the Greeks but these came from before the Greeks) would in the aggregate become the Classical Greeks of history.

That is not a new theory..at least in the world of fiction novels..Clive Cussler's book "Atlantis Found" postulated that Atlantis was not one place but a vast seafaring culture who built cities primarily on the shorelines, as they were excellent seafarers. They were wiped out when sea levels drastically rose and submerged their cities...Just sayin'....Jeff
