2004: Quick 12 hour snowburst in the southern Sierra: 13" fell at Hume Lake and Lodgepole and 15" at Shaver Lake.
2001: Santa Ana winds blew on this day and 12.8.
Gusts reached 87 mph at Fremont Canyon.
Winds contributed to the Potrero Fire.
1998: It was 30° at Capistrano Beach and Dana Point and 29° at Mission Viejo and San Clemente.
1997: The heaviest rains in 70 years struck Orange County with four to eight inches of rainfall starting on this day and ending on 12.7.
Ten inches was recorded at Mission Viejo and over four inches at Corona.
Heavy downpours also hit the Victor Valley.
Widespread flooding resulted in Orange County, along with mud slides and coastal erosion in Laguna Beach.
Flooding also occurred in Corona and several communities of Victor Valley.
Mud flowed through Adelanto.
1992: A big storm that started on 12.4 and ended on this day brought rainfall from 0.5 inch at the coast to up to six inches of precipitation in the mountains.
1.65 inches fell in Coronado, 1.60 in Vista, 1.42 in Fallbrook, 1.32 in Escondido, and 1.15 in San Diego.
Flooding in Tijuana killed four and left hundreds homeless.
Local flooding, mud slides, standing water, and road closures resulted.
Six inches to two feet of snow fell in the mountains.
Tornadoes in Anaheim, Westminster, caused property damage on this day.
A waterspout came ashore as a tornado in Carlsbad causing severe damage to a mobile home and a car dealership and also uprooted street lights and trees.
1989: It was 87° in Borrego Springs, the highest temperature on record for December.
This also occurred the previous day and the next day on 12.6 and 12.8, and on 12.28.1980.
1978: It was a frigid day across the Southland, with numerous record low temperatures and record low maximum temperatures.
The 18° high temperature in Big Bear Lake was the second lowest maximum temperature on record.
Santa Maria dropped to 20°, coldest low ever!
1971: A strong Mono Wind event occurred during the evening hours producing wind speeds estimated at over 70 mph across Yosemite National Park by the U.S. Park Service. Over 200 trees were downed here and the ski lift at Badger Pass was severely damaged.
Trees also fell down in the North Fork and Big Creek areas of the Sierra National Forest.
1966: Heavy rain drenched the region, even the mountains, from 12.2 to this day.
Storm totals for the period: 27.79" in Lake Arrowhead (believed to be a 100 year rainfall), 23.73" in Palomar Mountain, 18.72" in Big Bear Lake, 17.85" in Idyllwild, 9.14" in San Bernardino, 7.63" in Redlands, 6.21" in Santa Ana, 5.19" in Riverside, 2.99" in San Diego, 2.73" in Palm Springs, but only 0.66" in Victorville and 0.28" in Barstow!
At least two homes were destroyed by floods and debris flows in Mill Creek Canyon.
Debris flows and floods damaged homes and roads in Wrightwood and Lytle Creek.
Homes and businesses were flooded in Redlands and Palm Springs.
Many roads across the region were flooded and washed out.
Scuba divers could not recover a Montclair man believed drowned in floodwaters.
Strong storm winds caused power outages.
1938: It was 93° in Palm Springs, the highest temperature on record for December.
This also occurred on 12.3.1958.
1922: 24" of snow fell at Tahoe City.
