Pamela,

Lightning is spelled "lightening" when it is 2:31 a.m. in the morning! :-p

I'd tend to agree with you. I'm not scanning as much as I used to, but when I do, what I'm hearing isn't 'the usual'.  CALFIRE is hitting stuff harder and faster than ever before and getting good results, but...Wragg and Rocky (hopefully NOT the Humboldt lightning starts) are showing us just how much contempt Mother Nature can have for that approach in these conditions.

FFs are doing an amazing job.  Support whatever FF are currently local to you (God knows, they get shuffled enough this time of year)--step up to them and say THANK YOU with a smile. They deserve it.

As for contributing...no one person can ever do it all.  Start listening, reading (wildlandfire.com etc), watching the news...and post intelligently.  It's all useful to those wishing a complete picture.

Oh, and Kim?  The word 'lightning', as in the electrical discharge, has no 'e' in it.  'Lightening' is what the plane is doing when it drops retardant. :) :)
