seeing fire activity with this change in the weather. If we do, this group
will get very busy.
Technically, this thread re ICS "should" be in the discussion group, not on
the main group. Speaking as a group moderator, I've not said anything until
now for the following reasons:
1. Things have been quiet, so what's the harm?
2. This is actually an important topic, so it deserves the wider audience of
the main group.
(I'm presuming the other mods and the owner have been thinking the same
way--or perhaps not thinking of the thread as off-topic. We haven't
discussed it.)
I'm not saying now that we should move the thread, but given today's change
in weather, I thought it might be helpful to raise the issue so you all will
be prepared to jump to the discussion group if it becomes necessary.
For many of you, that preparation should include joining the discussion
group. You can do that simply by emailing to
californiadisasters_discussion-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
BTW, for those who don't understand why we have two groups:
1. The main group can get very busy at times, so much so that we'll issue a
"Code 33", meaning that the only acceptable posts are those giving immediate
information about a major incident.
2. We have members who don't want the chit-chat, for whatever reason. This
includes members who receive this group on their portable devices (and pay
by the word) so they can be totally up on current incidents.
The use of a second group allows members to have some control over what they
receive, by setting the discussion group for digest, by having the
discussion group go only to their home computers, etc., while still
receiving the main group in an anywhere/anytime form.
And this is as good a time as any to throw in a reminder for you to trim
your messages. Many of us just hit Reply, add our comments, and send (yes,
I'm one of those), but for the sake of readability (aka "communication") and
in consideration of those who pay by the word, we need to trim the excess
out of our replies. This is all the more true in Code 33 conditions. TIA for
remembering.
newnethboy, for the Owner and Moderators
