people back. Obviously not far enough back.
BTW, the part reportedly broken would be the "tie rod", a piece which
connects the two front wheels together and keeps them pointing in the same
direction. If a tie rod breaks, the left wheel will go hard left and the
right wheel will go hard right (except that one of the wheels will probably
still be connected to the steering gear, so will stay controlled while the
other goes all the way out). Makes steering somewhat harder--like
impossible.

Terrible accident. No doubt they need to rethink how the crowd stands a
few feet away from jumping and racing trucks. A plastic net barrier is

Authorities say a vehicle ran into a crowd and killed eight people during
an off-road race in the _Southern California_
