I cannot confirm which date the fire began but from my research it appears to have started that day or the day before..... Santa Ana Wind-driven fires don't take several days to cover 44,000+ acres.
While checking out the Inaja Fire I noticed there were some other firefighter mass-casualty incidents in California history I have not heard of before, to wit, the 1958 Decker Incident which killed 6 firefighters and the 1968 Canyon Incident which killed 8 firefighters.
I had heard of the 1943 Hauser Creek Incident which killed 11 firefighters, but had forgotten about it until reminded in tonight's research.
