Downed power lines due to high winds Thursday afternoon has left 18,557 Southern California Edison customers without electricity.

The areas most affected in the northern region of Southern California are Simi Valley, Calabasas, Lancaster and Moorpark, said Lauren Bartlett, a spokeswoman for Edison.

In the eastern region, Corona, Mira Loma and Fontana are the greatest affected. In Orange County: Brea, Fullerton and Santa Ana.

On a day fraught with issues pertaining to gusty winds, crews are continuing to work around the clock to restore power to affected households.

"Southern California is restoring power first to customers who have been out the longest," Bartlett said.

In the meantime, Bartlett said people should take safety precautions.

"High winds are expected to continue," she said. "If you see a downed power line, don't try to move it or touch it. Call 911."

Bartlett also advised drivers to watch traffic signals that may be out, keep battery operated flashlights in their home and refrain from using equipment for outside heating indoors as they could emit toxic gases.
