1995: Severe thunderstorms moved through Madera, Fresno and Tulare counties, spawning an F0 tornado near the Fresno Fairgrounds causing minor damaging some roofs and damaging a car.
Hail at least ¾" diameter also caused locally heavy losses to fruit crops in eastern Fresno County.
1990: It was 34° in San Luis Obispo, the lowest temperature on record for May.
1981: It was 100° in Victorville, the earliest 100° reading of the season on record.
1967: Latest freeze ever at Edwards AFB, low dipped to 32°.
1967: It was 18° in Big Bear Lake, the lowest temperature on record for May. This also occurred on 5.8.1964.
1955: Dense fog observed at Bakersfield, the latest such occurrence in the season on record.
1955: It snowed 6" in Idyllwild and in Palomar Mountain, each the greatest daily snowfall on record for May.
In Idyllwild this also occurred on 5.6.1995.
1930: In Riverside 1.3" of rain fell and in Escondido 2.17" of rain fell, each the greatest daily amount on record for May.
1915: Bakersfield only reached 55° for a high, the lowest on record here for May (also tied on May 6, 1921).
1912: 12" of snow fell at Tahoe City, tied for its all-time record one-day total for May.
