[Geology2] Pilot Captures Close-Up Look at Volcano Eruption on Video

COLD BAY, Alaska – Video shot by a pilot flying close to Alaska's Pavlof Volcano as it was erupting went viral Friday.

Chris Owens said he flew within about a half-mile of the volcano.

Pavlof's ash cloud went as high as 20,000 feet into the air, and could be seen from the International Space Station, according to NASA.
