[californiadisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (August 3)



1997: A major heat wave started on 8.2 and ended on 8.7.
Temperatures hit 121° F in Thermal, 118° F in Borrego Springs, 113° F in Brea, 110° F in Riverside and Ontario, and 101° F in Julian.
The low temperature was 93° F in Palm Springs on 8.5.
Five deaths were attributed to this heat wave.
Dime size hail was reported at Campo on this day.

1969: Saint Helena had a high temperature of 108° F.

1961: The high temperature at Hawthorne, NV, was 105° F.

1929: A severe thunderstorm in Yuma un-roofs more than 10 buildings and completely destroys 2 others.

1928: Since records for Bakersfield have been kept at Meadows Field, only three days in the month of August have never received any precipitation – August 3rd, August 20th and August 25th.
