2003: The U.S. Coast Guard station at Lake Tahoe report a brief waterspout five miles southwest of Incline Village.
In addition, a very weak tornado was reported 2 miles north of Verdi, NV, on a ridge between Peavine Mountain and the Verdi Range.

1997: A major heat wave started on this day and ended on 8.7.
Temperatures hit 121° F in Thermal, 118° F in Borrego Springs, 113° F in Brea, 110° F in Riverside and Ontario, and 101° F in Julian.
The low temperature was 93° F in Palm Springs on 8.5.
Five deaths were attributed to this heat wave.

1993: China Lake NAS reaches a scorching 119° F for an all-time record high temperature for any month of the year.

1976: It was 52° F in Palm Springs, the lowest temperature on record for August.
This also occurred on 8.27.1954 and 8.30.1957.

1972:
Thunderstorms hit San Bernardino County.
Flash floods covered portions of highways with mud, including a stretch of Interstate 15 between Barstow and Baker for eight hours.
Highway 95 near Needles was also closed by flash flooding.

1947: 2" of rain fell in Idyllwild, the greatest daily amount on record for August.

1926: Heavy rain (2.12") causes considerable damage in Yuma.
Stores are flooded and many canals are broken in and around town.

1900: Santa Cruz had a high temperature of 99
° F.
