2010: A funnel cloud was observed in Yucaipa.

2010:
Today's date is now the latest date during the calendar year when the daily minimum temperature was 70° F or higher in Fresno.
Previously the latest date for a minimum of 70° F or above was Sep 22; the low on this date was 72° F (set back in 1999).

1986:
Earliest measurable snow on record in Kyle Canyon on Mt. Charleston (NW of Las Vegas near CA-NV border) with 0.4".
 
1986:
Rain and thunderstorms hit the LA area.
1.5" of rain fell in Pasadena (in a little more than one hour), 1.02" fell in LA (in less than one hour), nearly 1" fell in Lake Arrowhead in 40 minutes, and 0.77" fell in Monrovia.
3" of hail piled up in Pasadena.
Wind gusts were clocked to 35 mph.
Hail nearly 0.5" in diameter fell at the Greek Theater in Hollywood.
In Blythe, winds gusted over 50 mph and 0.79" or rain fell in 30 minutes.
Classes were cancelled at CSU-Northridge from power outages and several serious traffic accidents resulted in Pasadena because of hail.
Minor flooding of roadways also occurred.
San Diego County was largely missed, with only 0.22" reported at Palomar Mountain.

1980: Monterey only dropped down to 73° F ... an all-time record!

1980: Blue Canyon (Placer County) set its all-time high temperature for the month with 88° F.

1980: It was 116° F in Palm Springs and 113° F in Borrego Springs, each the highest temperature on record for October.
This also occurred in Borrego Springs the next day on 10.3.

1971: The morning low temperature at Reno, NV was 22° F.

1940: 20" of snow fell at Truckee.

1916: Earliest measurable snowfall on record in Yosemite Valley, 2" of snow whitened the ground.

1858: A category one hurricane hit San Diego, the only documented hurricane to strike California in history.
This occurred before official weather observations began.
Implied winds of at least 75 mph were based on damage and journalistic accounts.
Extensive wind damage to property neared F2 (Fujita Scale) damage.
Streets were swept clean by heavy rains.
