2011: Isolated thunderstorms developed across portions of Imperial county during the afternoon hours on October 3rd.
The storms generated strong and gusty outflow winds in excess of 50 mph which were sufficient to blow down a number of trees and power poles.
2000: Pot gardens went up in smoke as the Weinstein Fire (in Tehama Co.) chased the marijuana growers out of the woods.
Firefighters who finished containing the escaped prescribed burn also stumbled onto a large marijuana garden, the fifth found in the remote area in about a month.
As the flames spread, Mexicans began emerging from the nearby forest.
But officials had no evidence connecting the 16 men to any gardens and released them, giving them each a ride into town, Tehama County Sheriff Clay Parker said.
1987: It was 108° F in LA on this day and on 10.4, the record high temperature for October.
On this day it was 109° F in El Cajon, 106° F in Chula Vista, Fallbrook and Santee, and 104° F in San Diego.
1986: Earliest measurable snow on record in Kyle Canyon on Mt. Charleston (NW of Las Vegas, NV), with 0.4".
1980: It was 101° F in Victorville the highest temperature on record for October.
This also occurred two days later on 10.5.
It was 113° F in Borrego Springs, the highest temperature on record for October.
This also occurred the previous day on 10.2.
1940: 20" of snow fell at Truckee.
1917: Saint Helena had a high of 104° F -- a record for the month.
1916: Second day of 4 day streak of record low maximum temperatures at Fresno that lasted from the 2nd through the 5th.
Highs were 58° F, 62° F, 64° F and 64° F respectively; these record low maxima made the lengthiest cold snap for so early in the season.
1912: A dry spell began in Bagdad on this day lasting 767 days and ended on 11.9.1914.
(Southern Pacific RR employees kept this debated record).
Strangely, on this same day Palm Springs recorded record rainfall.
