[californiadisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (October 4)



2015: Low pressure leaving Washington on Oct. 2 arrived this day and through the 6th afflicted the greater metropolitan Las Vegas. NV, Area.
Over the course of the period October 4-6. 2016, t
here were 23 warnings issued with 45 different reports of flash flooding or severe weather.
Hail was observed in several places across the region, with the largest hail measuring 1.25" just east of Boulder City,Nevada.
Finally, abundant moisture through the lower and mid levels of the atmosphere
indicated a
primed atmosphere for flash flooding.

Flash flooding occurred as a result of heavy
thunderstorms over western portions of the Las Vegas valley several hours after this sounding was observed.

2010:
A strong low pressure system off the southern California coast helped generate severe weather and flash flooding over southern Nevada and northwest Arizona.
The most extensive damage took place at Callville Bay, Nevada in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area where a torrent of water and mud up to 10 feet high swept through pushing two buildings 150 feet...uplifting docks and concrete blocks and damaging several boats and personal watercraft.
In all preliminary reports describe this flash flood as damaging at least one third of Callville Bay with damages totaling at least one million dollars.

1994:
San Francisco received 0.33" of rain.


1993:
A widespread hail event in western Nevada.
Hail up to 1" in diameter fell in Carson City and Reno.
Hail up to 1.5" in diameter was reported in Virginia City.


1987: San Luis Obispo hit 111° F, Santa Maria hit 108° F, and Santa Barbara hit 103° F, all record high for the month.

1987:
It was 108° F in LA on 10.3 and on this day, the record high temperature for October.

1980: Fresno reached 102° F for a high temperature, highest on record for the month of October.

1980: It was 110° F in Borrego Springs, the latest date in the season to record 110° F or higher.

1973: The morning low temperature at Reno, NV was 20° F.

1953: It was 106° F in Escondido, the highest temperature on record for October.
This also occurred the next day on 10.5.

1947: The high temperature in Las Vegas, NV, was 100° F, making it the latest triple digit
high on record.
This marked the 100th time in 1947 that temperature reached 100
° F or higher
setting an all-time record for a year.

1925: 2.95" of rain fell at San Diego, the second greatest daily amount on record and the greatest daily amount on record for October.
3.24" of rain fell starting on this day and ending on 10.5, the greatest 24-hour amount on record for October.

1917: Record high minimum temperature at Fresno for the month of October set, 69° F.
