[Volcano_Vista_HS] Voters Re-elect Esquivel; Choose Two New APS Board of Education Members



Moderator's Note: Congratulations to Katherine Korte for winning our area's school board position!


According to unofficial results from the Bernalillo County Clerk's Office, Albuquerque voters re-elected current Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education President Marty Esquivel and chose two new board members in the election held Feb. 2.

Esquivel was re-elected to a second term in District 4, which includes the center of the city and the downtown area. Esquivel received 1,450 votes to Cheryl Ann Harris' 1,032, Candido Archuleta's 189, and Charles MacQuigg's 168.

Elected in District 1, which covers the South Valley, was Analee Maestas with 695 votes. Candidates Jay Zook received 258 votes; Clara Peña received 229; incumbent Dolores Griego, 193; and Phillip Chavez, 144.

Elected in District 2, which includes the northwest area of the city, was Katherine Korte with 872 votes to candidates Peter Sanchez's 683 votes; John Herrera's 299 votes; Greg Snyder's 223 votes; and Felix Nuñez's 131 votes.

The new board members will be sworn in at the March 2 of the Board of Education meeting.
