1982: Reno, NV had a high temperature of 101°.
1972: It was 105° at Santa Barbara and 98° in Idyllwild, their highest temperatures on record for August.
1969: It was an incredible 110° in Cuyamaca.
1968: It was 31° in Big Bear Lake, making this day the earliest date in the season to reach freezing temperatures.
It was 27° in Idyllwild, the lowest temperature on record for August.
1955: The high temperature at Lovelock, NV was 102°.
1952: Downtown Bakersfield suffered significant damage from a 5.8 earthquake.
Many buildings were damaged and two people died.
1903: All-time August record low for Bakersfield set, 44°.
