2005: Reno, NV, recorded a high temperature of 104° F.
2003: The Coyote Fire started on this day along the San Diego/Riverside County line.
The fire burned through rugged terrain, consumed 18,705 acres and cost $10.3 million to contain.
1998: Fresno and Bakersfield experience their latest first 100° F day on record.
On the same day, Tehachapi hits 100° F for the first time since July 26, 1980.
1998: It was 127° F in Death Valley.
1988: Redwood City had a high temperature of 100° F.
1990: Strong thunderstorms produced a mess in Twentynine Palms.
A 30-minute downpour brought parts of the city to a standstill with water running three feet deep through city streets.
Many homes and business were flooded and several streets were damaged.
1990: A 25-year-old woman drowns after her car is swept off Arville Street and into Flamingo Wash.
Her body is found downstream in the lower level of the Imperial Palace parking garage.
Storms during the month cause $8.7 million in damage to public facilities.
1984: Thunderstorms caused flash flooding in the eastern Kern County desert, including mudslides on Highway 14 between Mojave and Inyokern, due to runoff from the eastern slopes of the Southern Sierra Nevada.
Flash flooding also occurred in the Lake Isabella area, with part of Highway 178 under 3' of water.
Flooding continued through the 18th.
1973: A tornado, rated F1, was reported 6 miles north of Reno, NV.
1954: A severe thunderstorm struck the Daggett area east of Barstow.
In addition to the heavy rains and flooding, this storm produced damaging winds.
These "gales" knocked down several power poles and were "hurled across the highway".
A mobile home was overturned and "ripped to pieces".
1923: It was 41° F in Escondido, the lowest temperature on record for July.
1884: The low temperature was 54° F in San Diego, the lowest on record for July.
