There's an interesting story about Westminster Presbyterian Church in
connection with both the Whittier Narrows & Sierra Madre quakes. Info is
included along with a few other short comments on my (personal) Facebook
page. Members of the group who wish to, are invited issue a FB friends
request, in order to follow these and other comments that might be of
interest in the future. However, be sure & let me know the connection or
your request is likely to ignored or denied. I also have a FB group page
under "Earthquake Solutions" but post there less frequently.
Incidentally, the terminus of the fracture in the SM quake was just about
where Westminster Presbyterian is located, so I'm sure Altadena did feel it.
Areas of Pasadena also felt it, with damages in some areas, particularly in
older structures & chimneys.

My family was living in Altadena at that time, and we were significantly
jolted. Plaster fell in the living room and roof tiles shifted, but that was
all.
On July Fourth, in Sierra Madre's tongue-in-cheek parade (with "floats" for
many fanciful organizations), one of the floats was for "The Sierra Madre
Inland Surfing Association": "Come catch the waves in Sierra Madre: 5.8 on
the Richter Scale!"
