Chiggers just love me.  When I go out into some yards, I swear I can hear the dinner bell go off.  If I'm around, they leave everyone else alone and go after me.  The same thing happens with mosquitoes, white flies, hell every damn bug that bites.  I take a lot of garlic to keep them away.

I'm VERY glad about not having them and also the trophy sized cockroaches I've see down south, complete with a Western saddle.  Yah, everyone warns you about the mosquitoes in AK but it was the white flies that did us the most harm.  When they bite, they take nickels worth of meat with them and the wound/itching are still there a week later.  DEET is seasoning for them, it didn't work (and we used industrial strength too).  Then there are the 'no-see-ums'…  after week or so, we'd used so much DEET that the bugs just generally stayed away from us (except for Watson Lake where they moved in synchronized swarms of billions).

Also larned, ya don't put >4% DEET directly on skin cuz you'll go numb where it touches.  ;-)

All we got here is skeeters.  Law-tnin boogs would be fun.
