Seems like a good place to suggest* that we drop the May 21 thread/topic
altogether now.
(Since the suggestion is coming from a moderator, let's read that as
"suggest".)

IMHO: While some of these folks tend to be troublesome in their
irresponsible behavior, there is good that comes out of these situations.
It may lead us to think about our own beliefs and actions towards others.
Moreover as emergency responders and managers, it may get us to practice
what we preach (re: preparedness). As long as it doesn't lead to self
destruction, e.g. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Mr. Applegate, etc.

LOL. He pushed the date forward to October 21st. Guess he needs time to
spend all the donations he still collects. Christians who are knowledgeable
about their Bible never believed him in the first place.

Absolutely nothing is going to happen just a normal day in America and
California. This whole scenario has been blown out of proportion by the
media and the Camping's media campaign, I hope he rids himself off this
planet. Or wakes up to the realization that the world is not going to end
and no one believed him when he started his campaign.

This is one of the dangers of social media and the 24 hour news cycle.
However most as in the vast majrity understand this. Some will act
irrationaly to these forces. Like a person who is driven to murder by a
movie or tv show. We can't condem the media.
