Re: [californiadisasters] Spring Flood Potential For Eastern California

Lake Isabella has a 360,000af restriction per the Army corps of Engineers.  At the rate the North Fork of the Kern is flowing, it will reach that restriction around the 18th.  What will they do if that happens?  They say:

The lake restriction is at 2585.5
feet (restricted storage of 360,000 af).  We are closely monitoring the dams
on a daily basis during the spring run-off.  The current snowpack is
projected at 184%; we are estimating that there is remaining 645,000 acre
feet of water stored in the snow pack.  The maximum projected releases will
be less than 4,000 cfs (our limit to prevent damaging flows is 8,000 cfs).
Depending on how quickly the snow melt occurs, we may go into the restricted
space of the reservoir pool in order to not exceed the 8,000 cfs outflow.
However, that water would be evacuated as quickly as possible without causing
downstream damage.  If the pool elevation exceeds reasonable limits in
Isabella Lake and water demands within the Kern River service area are
insufficient to fully use reservoir release, then the Corps will consider
additional measures including exporting water outside the Tulare Lake Basin.
We continue to coordinate this effort closely with the Kern River Water
Master.
