That should have read: "hopefully you get to complete your studies as well Rob". (As in both Lin and Rob).

Cheers Lin. It's good to get feedback also, as I sometimes think I should post more.
Yup, I'll keep the group updated if Camping gives an interview, lol!
Best of luck for getting to do the P.h.d and also hopefully you get to complete your studies as well as Rob. It can be good to study later in life I feel, as you have amassed a lot of experience by then which hopefully shall come in handy.
Regards,
Mark.

Thanks Ya'll for that wonderful support. I can't say enough good about our membership here. Although most folks are quiet observers (and that's alright), I so appreciate the feedback and general feel of community among logical thinking folks. But if anyone thinks geologists don't know how to laugh and knock back a few, then they've got a lesson to learn; in fact, geologists tell the worst jokes on the planet. I used to rub elbows with them and I know. Now, I must apologize for mis-doing-everything to Camping's name. I admit that I wrote my reply to Loz this morning before the first cup of java... and I've yet to learn to wait until that magic liquid penetrates the neurons and synaptic responses before I open my mouth. Rob, I'm very proud of you! I'm 57 and I'm trying now to get back into school to finish my PhD. All I lack are my comps and the dissertation, which is already written in my head. Unfortunately, I did not get to finish my geology degree at Cal State Fullerton and thereupon returning to W. Tennessee, I chose instead to finish another loose trail and major in English literature. Why didn't I finish my geo career here? No plate tectonics and no volcanism courses. I said thanks, but no thanks. Having worked in paleontology for several years, I admit to liking that aspect of geology, but my heart lay in putting that suit on and walking down into the heart of a live volcano. Still is. But you... you are going for it and I'm ecstatic for you. Please keep us updated on how your exams go and if possible, I would love to read your research on Icelandic volcanism. There is a general lack of books published that concern Icelandic geology and it would be very well accepted if you could publish your results. Book publishing is a royal pain, but it's worth it. Lastly, if I or anyone of you finds anything on how Camping worked his way out of this one, please post it. We all can use another laugh. :-)

This guy uses what he thinks to be a geological time table and a Bible based series of events to calculate an event that is not gonna happen..he is an idiot. But it is nice to see something like this once in a while. Humor, Y' know? Smile. Allison

Come on, and keep up the real Geology/Volcanism and other other factual stuff which is so excellently presented to us and leave this kind of tripe where it belongs, in the trash can! Harold Camping's 21st May Doomsday prediction fails; No earthquake in New Zealand By IB Times Staff Reporter | May 21, 2011 2:46 AM EDT May 21 Doomsday soothsayer Harold Camping's prediction has bombed, expectedly so. New Zealand's Christmas Island was not hit by any earthquake even after the appointed time of the apocalypse passed the region. It is official. It is Harold Camping, the leader of Christian radio network Family Radio, who ends with pie on the face. The LA Times reported that even after local time 6.P.M. passed the Christmas Island, no earthquake took place according to data from the U.S. Geological survey. Now atheists of the world can celebrate the busting of yet another end of the world prediction. "As of 10:30 p.m. PDT -- 7:30 p.m. May 21 on Christmas Island, also known as Kiritimati -- no earthquakes had been reported within the last hour and a half, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, which tracks seismic activity worldwide," the report said. "New Zealand region yet to suffer destruction forecast by Oakland-based doomsday predictor," tweeted burntheartist Bernie B. Sandra_A87 Sandra tweeted: "It's 6:38pm Saturday in Wellington, New Zealand. #RaptureFail #HaroldCamping." Someone else made some fun at the expense of the laughable prediction. "Breaking News: An Earthquake of 0.0 Magnitude has hit New Zealand," tweeted TamekaRaymond Tameka J. Another one: "We'll its past 7pm May 21st in New Zealand and so far no earthquakes," said srtten E N. According to Harold Camping, the 'rapture', would have taken place on May 21, 2011 at 6.P.M.localtime, in all regions of the world. The rapture us is the Biblical belief that Jesus Christ will arrive in a Second Coming to carry the believers up to heaven. Camping said a rolling earthquake will devastate the world on May 21, 2011 and those left behind will end up as victims of the final, all-encompassing destruction six months later. Camping had said his theory is guaranteed by Bible. Some verses from the Bible, given below apparently fuels theories like this: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." The great Biblical flood of Noah's times is the basis of Camping's theory. He makes some calculations to arrive at the date of that flood. He says the flood that decimated the population of the world sans Noah and whoever got on board on his vessel, took place in 4990 B.C. Camping had done some strange calculations to arrive at the date May 21. In the Bible, it is said that Noah had been given 7 days to prepare for the flood. He was alerted that the flood will wipe out anyone and everyone who was not on board his vessel, animals and human beings included. Likewise, Camping says the '7-day warning notice' has been in place and he has actually decoded it precisely. Camping says though, that instead of a 7-day warning, it's really been a 7,000-year-warning. "Seven thousand years after 4990 B.C. (the year of the Flood) is the year 2011 A.D. (our calendar)," he says in his website. "4990 + 2011 – 1 = 7,000," he calculates. "One year must be subtracted in going from an Old Testament B.C. calendar date to a New Testament A.D. calendar date because the calendar does not have a year zero." And here's how he arrived exactly at the date: 'Amazingly, May 21, 2011 is the 17th day of the 2nd month of the Biblical calendar of our day. Remember, the flood waters also began on the 17th day of the 2nd month, in the year 4990 B.C." Source -- Got Penguins?
