Lava continues to flow but stalls within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, Hawaii — Lava continues to flow from Puu Oo crater but it's contained to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and state land managed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Geologist Janet Babb said Monday the flows are still active, but it doesn't look like there will be any more forward advancement.

Lava began flowing from the fissure breakout that started last week at Kilauea, a volcano that has been continuously erupting since 1983. It advanced about 2.3 miles (3.7 kilometers) before stopping short of the mostly abandoned Royal Gardens subdivision.
