That is not a new theory..at least in the world of fiction novels..Clive Cussler's book "Atlantis Found" postulated that Atlantis was not one place but a vast seafaring culture who built cities primarily on the shorelines, as they were excellent seafarers. They were wiped out when sea levels drastically rose and submerged their cities...

 

Just sayin'....
