I am in the process of developing a virtual website --- Terraology --
specially designed for earth and environmental science teachers.
Terralogy is breaking new grounds in educational technology and will
include; 1) a teacher's lounge, where teachers can share and exchange
ideas with colleagues and students, including breaking research in
earth and environmental science, sanity checks, listservs, video
conferencing, data libraries, and lesson libraries, 2) a huge open
source virtual learning environment (VLE) area designed for educators
to create online dynamic web sites for their students, including
forums, databases and wikis, collaborative communities, assignments
and/or quizzes, 3) a means by which colleagues and members are able to
add, view and share favorite lessons, books, pods, and videos, 2) an
educator diary, which lecturers can share their writings, suggestions
and classroom experiences, 4) "in the classroom" section, that
provides teachers with ideas on student development, virtual and field
trips, lesson plans, project ideas, media, experiments, activities,
games, an in-depth regents review section, ... 5) an educator and
student development section that will provide educators with
information on upcoming fairs, camps, conference, forums and
symposiums, 6) a resource section that includes information on
copyright and fair use, science safety standards, national and state
science education standards, science assessments, associations and
organizations, as well as curriculum maps, calendars, software and
products, 7) ... and much, much, more.
I would love some input as to what other teachers are looking for in
an on-line learning environment. Please forward any comments that you
may have regarding this endeavor and if you would be willing to test
run it. I am hoping to have it done by Jan 2013. I hope you will find
it to be interesting, enjoyable and informative.
