I figured there's probably some owners of the old Civil Defense era geiger counter models CD V700 on the mailing list. Since they made so many of them that went to surplus - lots of people have them collecting dust in their closets. If you are interested in a cheap external speaker for your unit - just do an ebay search for "CDV700 speaker" and it will come up.
