Only if we expand the category to include non-earthquake events.... Volcano was a fun movie but it was scientifically just about as horrid as one can find. Dante's Peak is probably the best modern volcano disaster movie but it is based in the Cascades of the Pacific Northwest.

Would " Volcano " with Tommy Lee Jones be included or 2012 also be included.

KimmerI agree with Kate.... "Earthquake" was the best earthquake movie to date, period. The practical effects and modeling were first-rate and beat just about all the CGI effects used in movies like this new abomination.
Yes, it felt like half the movie was spent developing the characters and there was plenty of '70s schlock but that was how movies were made then and was unavoidable....
...and it gave us the unforgettable performance of Marjoe Gortner as the weirdo grocery clerk turned national guardsman, Sgt. Jody Joad, getting rapish with a young Victoria Principal. On Wed, May 27, 2015 at 7:57 AM, Kate Hutton katehutton@gmail.com [californiadisasters] <californiadisasters@yahoogroups.com> wrote:They got that wrong. "Earthquake" (the one with Charlton Heston) is the best of the lot.And then there is the old "San Francisco" with Clark Gable ... not so bad!KateOn Wed, May 27, 2015 at 7:42 AM, Lin Kerns linkerns@gmail.com [californiadisasters] <californiadisasters@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
As the fantastical movie, "San Andreas" will be released in a few days, I thought it would be kind of cool to prep yourself for what to expect by sharing this list of equally fantastical earthquake movies. Be prepared for a lot of bad science!
