Re: [californiadisasters] 1915 Mount Lassen Eruption, Friday, 22 May 2015

Interesting side notes:  A dog woke it's owner who thought the barking was because of a bear.  But when he looked outside and saw the mud flow, he was able to run and warn his neighbors of the dangers so that all were safe.  6 homesteads were lost.

After 100 years, the forest is returning but isn't very dense; most of the remaining 'soil' doesn't have a lot of dirt.  Also the roots aren't well anchored so with two major wind events in the last six months, there is a LOT of windfall trees; other sections are 'drunken' forests with a lot of leaning trees.

Notes
On this date in 1915 Mount Lassen following three days of ever-intensifying activity let loose with a climactic plinian eruption whose column rose over five miles into the atmosphere. Due to prior evacuations of the area nobody was harmed in this largest eruption in the eruptive sequence of 1914-1917.
