100th Anni of the last boom, tomorrow.
The park is open (much earlier than normal). I was there opening day, a couple weeks ago. Some trails still closed for 1-6' of snow.
There are events planned on location.
If you tire of the numerous Vulcan locations and hikes (or your party whines) there are NICE small towns dotting the area and they still have that small mountain town "feel". Shopping is limited (still early season).
Fishing is awesome (!!!!) and water sports are nearby (Lake Almanor).
MacArthur Burney SP is close, wildlife abounds (birds, bears, deer, rodents, badger). No one can be totally bored there but cell/internet coverage isn't good (which IS good). Numerous camping ops, RV parks available, some inns/motels (make reservations!). Minimum suggested stay; 3 days.
